# EasyReg: from a MATLAB script to an R/Shiny web app still in service

> A single-licence MATLAB program replaced by an R and Shiny web application, still used by INRAE eight years later and cited in two articles and two theses.

- Client: INRAE
- Period: April to September 2018
- Stack: R, Shiny, Agile
- Outcome: Still in production eight years later, extended by the INRAE team; cited in 2 articles and 2 theses

## Starting point

INRAE researchers modelled fruit metabolism with a single-file MATLAB program. Its single licence limited it to one user at a time, on one dedicated machine.

## The delivery

EasyReg, an R web application with a Shiny interface, built with an Agile methodology during a final-year Master's internship.

- Reachable from any machine, unlimited simultaneous users.
- Results displayed immediately, no code to write for the researchers.
- Modular architecture designed for maintainability.

## Today

The tool is [still online](https://easy-reg.sk8.inrae.fr/), maintained and extended by the INRAE team eight years later. It is cited in two peer-reviewed articles (The Plant Journal, New Phytologist) and two doctoral theses.
